Brenda Fishel, an Iowa Native and Hawkeye Fan, is the office manager and customer service liaison at Compass Financial Partners. Brenda has over 15 years of combined experience in financial services office management at True North and Compass Financial Partners. Her wealth of management skills is abundant. She is a key asset to ensuring that our clients receive the prompt and courteous service they deserve. She steers the ship in keeping the office running smoothly. As a valuable member of the team of support for the advisors and agents of Compass Financial Partners, Brenda provides top notch skills in her area of expertise. Brenda grew up and graduated from Oelwein High School. She previously owned and operated her own day care business for 18 years before transitioning to office management. Her favorite moments are the times spent with her growing family, consisting of six children, three grandchildren and counting! Being a lover of the outdoors, she enjoys spending time perfecting her swing on the golf course and gardening.

Jim McPartland, CLU, ChFC
It has been Jim’s focus since the beginning of his career to help his clients map out their future financial goals so that they would successfully reach their destination. To Jim this means keeping current on the financial world so that he may provide a compass to help his clients navigate their journey through work life, family life and retirement.
To better advise his clients, Jim has studied to obtain the RICP®, Retirement Income Certified Professional Designation. This training provides the additional knowledge to provide direction to his clients during the time of transition from accumulating wealth while in the working years to distributing wealth in retirement. This enables Jim to provide a tremendous value by delivering smart theoretical and practical direction to his clients’ income planning needs.
In addition to this latest achievement, Jim’s credentials include a BA from the University of Iowa, designations of CLU®, Chartered Life Underwriter, and ChFC®, Chartered Financial Consultant from The American College. He has been a member of both the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and the Society of Financial Service Advisors (FSP) for more than 30 years. He’s also a member of the Cedar Rapids Area Estate Planning Council, a group of approximately 100 professional from the fields of Law, Trusts, Development, Accounting and Insurance who meet regularly to share information from their respective disciplines.
To Jim, God and family values are always his top priority. His favorite pastime is golf which is placed very high on his list of priorities. In fact, Jim and his wife, Kathy have embarked on a quest to play golf in all 50 of the United States! This combines his love for country with his love for golf! As Jim says, “There’s is plenty of this country I want to see, and what better view than from a golf course!”
Jim is also the co-founder and tournament chairman of the prestigious annual Greater Cedar Rapids Open professional golf event.
Bob Payne, CLTC
Certified Long Term Care Advisor
Bob is a veteran in the insurance industry with experience at the home office level as well as in the field. He specializes in comprehensive personal planning, with an emphasis on retirement income, and long-term care planning. Bob currently maintains his life and health licenses as well as his long-term care certification (CLPC). Prior to his insurance career, he worked in the broadcast and marketing communications industries.
Bob takes great pride in helping people through transition periods in their life. Whether the transitions are welcome ones like a new job, marriage, retirement, or sending children to college, or unwelcome ones like divorce, death, or disability, Bob wants his clients to feel comfortable that their vision for the future has been secured by solid planning and personalized solutions. Bob’s goal is to give clients a clear understanding of complicated variables at play so that they can feel confident in the decisions they’re making.
When Bob isn’t hard at work, you can find him behind the microphone announcing local high school sporting events, playing saxophone in the Hawkeye Alumni Marching Band or singing with his church’s praise choir.
Bob and his wife are also active foster parents, providing a temporary, stable homes for area children-in-need for over ten years.

Through the use of mutual funds,* life insurance, and annuities, Myron has been able to help his clients pursue a wide variety of financial goals. A University of Iowa Graduate, Myron has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Myron spends his free time cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending time with family, driving his kids to all of their different activities, and coaching their sports teams. When he has time to himself, he enjoys unwinding on scenic bike rides.
Donna S. Littrel Barnard, CLU®, ChFC®
Donna is a Financial Advisor with Compass Financial Partners. Her goal is to provide families and business owners with assistance in building their financial freedom. Donna enjoys getting to know her client’s needs and wants and use financial planning tools in order to address the broad financial needs of her clients. Her focus includes financial planning, investment management, insurance, Medicare and long-term care planning.

Donna has nearly two decades of experience in the financial services industry. She uses her skills and experience to help clients reach their destinations. Donna is qualified to fulfill her desire to serve as a lifetime resource for her clients. She is licensed to offer Life and Health Insurance and registered for various Securities Product. She currently holds her Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 registrations.

In her free time, she loves outdoor activities like camping, fishing, hiking, and bird watching. When not outside enjoying nature, she is undertaking a grand renovation of her century home located in Van Horne. Donna has three lovely daughters; Alexsy is an aspiring Nurse Practitioner studying locally, Alice is a college student while doubling as an auto-technician, and the youngest, Amber is on her quest to graduate high school at Benton Community with straight A’s!
Office Assistant and Marketing Specialist
“Better than I deserve”, John Woodhouse would say when you ask him how he is today. To many financial advisors and ordinary people, they recognize this as something said by known financial counselor, author and radio syndicate, Dave Ramsey. Once he discovered Dave, John became passionate about financial services and made the decision to help guide others to have a confident financial future. In his path to becoming a financial advisor, John started an internship as an office assistant and marketing specialist at Compass Financial Partners in Downtown Cedar Rapids. This new endeavor provides him the opportunity to gain a great deal of knowledge and experience in the financial services industry.
Beyond his experience at Compass Financial Partners, this year, John will start his studies in financial services so that he can obtain his associates degree at Kirkwood. From there he plans to attend Mount Mercy University to complete his bachelor’s degree. In no time, John will be well on his way to living his dream as a financial advisor.
When he’s not at the office, John loves spending time outdoors, working in the yard and enjoying nature. He treasures spending time with his friends and family as well as the peace and quiet of reading a good book.
